Plumbing Design

Plumbing design: Lance’s magnificent seven

After many years in the wild world of plumbing design, I’ve managed to come up with a few rules. Seven, to be exact:

  1. Before commencing work on your plumbing design, find all the sewers outfalls and manholes.
  2. Plumbing design should be based around central mechanical cores.
  3. In the space above the ceiling, gravity-fed piping is numero uno in plumbing design.
  4. In plumbing design, your first responsibility is public safely. But money matters too.
  5. Save your clients money with design/build plumbing design.
  6. In plumbing design, drain, waste and vent (DWV) piping should never be less than 2” and water supply piping should never be less than ½ inch.
  7. Wool suits are not practical attire for the plumbing designer, but you needn’t settle for dirty overalls either. It’s important to look good in plumbing design. I usually suggest some khakis with a polo shirt. But if you really want to make a splash in plumbing design, try jodhpurs with a billowing white shirt and silk scarf. You’ll be the best dressed plumbing designer in town!

Can plumbing design really be as simple as that? Just seven little rules, and you can be a plumbing designer? Well of course not. There’s much, much more to plumbing design. That’s why when you’re looking for a plumbing designer, it’s essential to find one with lots of experience and the right wardrobe. So explore these pages, and I’m confident you’ll find the right plumber to help with your plumbing design.
