Darts
Much like pool, darts is considered by many to be nothing more than a working class game played by people in English pubs. Darts, I am pleased to announce, is so much more than those narrow minded people care to admit. There are in fact two World darts championships and that alone shows the world-wide popularity of darts. Interestingly, the game of darts is played with a set of darts, much like football is played with a football. One way or another, darts is a great game and darts players will tell you that.
There used to be a darts based game show called 'Bulls eye' on British television. This game incorporated two people playing darts on an oversized darts board and for each of the darts you could win a prize. The catchphrase for this legendary darts show was "You can't beat a bit of Bully". This clever darts reference is referring to the bulls eye, the centre of the darts board and the darts game mascot, 'Bully'. Darts, as you will have gathered from this trivia, is a popular game and darts fans can be found all over the place.
Playing darts is quite a skill. You will often find people playing darts in a pub but many people grew up with a darts board at home. I played darts when I was growing up and had some great darts with Union Jack flights. For those who know nothing about darts, the flights are attached to the non-pointy end of the darts to help them fly through the air. As the darts hurtle towards the board, you will see how useful flights are. I often used to wonder about darts in the pub. Imagine handing three sharp objects, the darts, to a person who has had a skin full of beer and letting them throw them. Ah, the joy of pub darts.
If you are a fanatic, you can join a darts league. Mostly, the darts pub leagues are an excuse to spend more time in the pub but for really committed darts players, it is just another chance to play darts. I say, play darts until you drop…and nothing goes with darts like a nice ale.
