Without furniture, a home or office would be nothing more than a bunch of empty rooms. Furniture defines who we are and how we live. Furniture helps us earn our livings; furniture allows us to relax at the end of the day.
For some, furniture is purely functional. Consider the college student whose stereo rests on wooden planks supported by cinder blocks. Or the lucky bachelor, whose furniture consists of a huge recliner, a wooden crate to support his Doritos and beer, and shelving for his home entertainment system. Pure bliss!
At the other end of the spectrum, there are those to whom furniture is functional art, an expression of their personal style and taste. (Of course, you could also say that the bachelor's furniture, described above, also describes his style and taste!)
