Dishwasher
My girlfriend does not have a dishwasher in her kitchen. The thing is, they live a really busy life, have 2 kids and just remodeled their kitchen.
They certainly could have put a dishwasher in there, but chose not to.
She likes to wash them in the sink. Not sure why, but that is what she likes to do.
I asked her how her kids feel about not having a dishwasher. She said they complain about it from time to time but are used to it.
A dishwasher is something I do not want to give up. I find it to be one of the most helpful things in my kitchen. I have 3 boys and the dishes pile up quickly.
Once you are use to a dishwasher, it is a real inconvenience if it stops working. Instead of the dinner mess disappearing into the dishwasher, dirty, messy plates and cutlery sit on the counter waiting to be washed.
We did not have a dishwasher at the cottage we rented in the summer but that was different. We weren't used to having one there so we tried to have fun when the dishes needed to be washed. We would put on some good tunes, have another glass of wine, and hang out together washing the dishes. I must admit we did use paper plates from time to time.
I remember the first dishwasher we had in our family. My sister's and I were away at camp and when we got home there was a brand spanking new dishwasher in the kitchen. We were so excited. But that didn't last to long. The excitement wore off fast and loading the dishwasher was no big thrill. It's like many things in life. We get used to the conveniences in life and take them for granted.
