Desks
You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their desk. Some desks look completely organized and orderly even when the person is working madly to meet a deadline. Other desks are so cluttered, you can't even see the desk.
I don't think a tidy desk means that the person who works at it is necessarily more productive then the person who is messy. Many messy desks produce a lot of work.
I am not good with a messy desk. I like to know where everything is and that it is in its place. I don't really even give my desk a chance to be messy. It' just not the way I am.
A desk really is your own personal space. You wouldn't want to leave your desk at the office to come back and find someone looking around in or on it. They may see your date book sitting out on your desk with your entire social life written out for the week.
We just bought a desk for our son who is starting Grade 7 this year.
He was so excited to go and pick out a desk for his room. I am just hoping that the excitement stays with him as the homework comes home in the backpack.
So far his desk is organized, he works at it when he does have homework and at this point he enjoys the space. He has a desk lamp, desk chair, and all the supplies to keep him happy up there.
My other son's have had their desks for a few years' now. The thrill has worn off and it is hard to see the top of their desks. Every now and then I see one of them staying up late and organizing his desk. A good habit to get into for the future I think.
