Christmas Cards
Christmas cards are a really good way to keep in touch with someone you wouldn't necessarily talk to on a regular basis. I know my Mother would always get out her book and look at a list of people she sends Christmas cards to every year.
The list never seemed to change and the most of the people on the list were people she knew well when she lived in a different city. Although she never called them up to say hello, she always made sure she went to that list and sent them a Christmas card.
Christmas cards are a really good way to support your favorite charity. It seems that most of the big charities send out donation cards that allow you to receive Christmas cards to send to your friends just for making a donation. That is a great way to buy cards and support a charity at the same time.
Christmas cards are in the stores really early to entice you to buy them early and get into the Christmas spirit. For many it works. They see the cards in the stores and buy them early to get them in the mail before the rush.
I am not that organized, nor do I choose to send out Christmas cards. I must say I do enjoy going to the mailbox and seeing a Christmas card in the mail. It is usually from a friend who we don't see on a regular basis keeping in touch.
Christmas cards with pictures of families on them are fun. It is amazing what people come up. Some are in the sun on a beach. We receive them in December with 10 feet of snow and the temperature well below zero. Some are of a family gathered by the fire all in red and green, or with reindeer antlers on their heads. Whatever!!! We don't do that in our family. My kids would run in the other direction as soon as the camera came out.
I do give Christmas cards to people as a thank you for something they have done. To a teacher, or neighbor who has done us a favors. Stuff like that.
Whatever the reason, it is nice to take the time to send someone a Christmas card. Maybe I will make the effort this year, or not.
