Rocking Chairs
I am sure most kids have been on the lap of an adult when we were kids in the old rocking chair. There is something relaxing about being rocked in the rocking chair.
The rocking chair that sits on the front porch probably gets the most use. People take their after dinner coffee out there and let their meal settle as they gentle rock back in forth in their rocking chair and shoot the breeze.
We don't see as many rocking chairs as we used to say 50 years ago.
I think of the picture of Granny and Gramps in their denim overalls sitting on the white wooden porch rocking back and forth in their favorite rocking chairs. Gramps is smoking his pipe and Granny is knitting or doing needle point. Definitely not something we see very often anymore. To bad, life is to fast these days.
New Mother's love a rocking chair. They put it in the nursery and feed their babies and rock them to sleep. It seems to really put a baby to sleep in a hurry.
I like going to bed and breakfasts. I often picture a big old screened in porch with a bunch of rocking chairs just waiting for the guests to enjoy. People hang out and enjoy conversation with each other. It is a different concept isn't it? You stay in someone's house with a bunch of people you don't know and everyone sits down together for breakfast.
Many people have a favorite B&B that they go and visit year after year. The get to know the owner's really well and feel right at home.
Maybe I should invest in a rocking chair. I never manage to sit and do nothing these days. Maybe that will entice me to sit and watch the world go by, even if it's only for 10 minutes at a time.
