Bird Bath

Be kind to our feathered friends - provide a bird bath

There are other benefits to setting up a bird bath - you and your kids get to watch the birds splashing around and having fun. And depending on the type and placement of your bird bath, you can bring the birds up close for a better look.

A bird bath is better than a feeder because a bird bath attracts many species of birds. All birds love to drink, clean themselves up after a hard day's flying around, and play in water.

Which kind of bird bath should you get?

When you purchase your bird bath you must ensure you get a shallow pool - no deeper than three inches at the center. The pool should be even shallower at the edges so the birds can ease their way into the bird bath. Unlike humans, who are accustomed to just diving in a pool, birds need to slowly walk into the pool area because they can't swim. To basically they just stand there in your bird bath, and splash around with their wings.

Your bird bath should have falling water

Birds of all kinds are attracted to the sound of water because it signals to them "Hey that's water I hear and I need a drink". Falling water will dramatically increases the number of species that visit your bird bath.

Where to locate your bird bath

First thing you have to aware of when locating your bird bath is that it's out-of-reach of cats. As you know cats love to eat birds! So your bird bath has to located in an open area so cats can't hide - waiting for the birds to come cool themselves off. Birds have to have a chance to see the cat coming, so they can fly away.

Locate your bird bath under some branches that hand down two or three feet from the top of the bird bath. If a cat shows up to eat them, the birds can flutter up into the leaves for safety.

Another popular choice for a bird bath is a pedestal bird bath. These protect the birds from cats and dogs and are easy to see from the porch or inside the house.
