Bathroom Vanity

Bathroom vanity. What is a bathroom vanity? I don’t really understand why we call a bathroom sink and cupboard a bathroom vanity.

Perhaps I should look up the word vanity in the dictionary. I think of the word in relation to someone who is vane, someone who likes themselves a lot. How does that tie in with the bathroom vanity?

I do think it is handy to have a bathroom vanity. That way you can keep things that you use in the washroom often in the washroom but out of sight. Handy for storing toilet paper, soap, toiletries etc.

A bathroom vanity can take up a lot of space in the washroom so if you are planning a new washroom and you want to have a vanity in it, you should be sure you design it to fit the space. What is the point of putting it in if it takes up a lot of space? You would be better off storing your bathroom things in the hall closet or somewhere else and leaving the space in the bathroom.

I remember seeing my Grandmother’s bathroom vanity. It was a basic wooden cupboard built around the sink with some space on the top beside the sink to put your make up or shaving cream or whatever.

It was very basic as most things were back then.

If I were to build a bathroom vanity I would be sure to have some drawers down the side to put things in. I like to organize my personal stuff and know where everything is. If I had drawers I could claim one drawer as mine and keep my own personal things in it.
